203 Second Tuesday of Advent: Joshua
Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
On the second Tuesday of Advent, we remember Joshua.
The ornament for today should represent Joshua and the Fall of Jericho (a ram's horn).
The story of Joshua and the fall of Jericho is found in the book of Joshua, specifically in Joshua 6. After Moses' death, Joshua was chosen by God to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. The city of Jericho stood as a formidable obstacle in their path.
God instructed Joshua on how to conquer Jericho. The Israelites were to march around the city once for six days, with seven priests carrying trumpets in front of the Ark of the Covenant. On the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times, and when Joshua gave the command, the people were to shout. Following God's instructions, the walls of Jericho miraculously collapsed, and the Israelites were able to conquer the city.
From this story, we can learn several important lessons. Firstly, it teaches us about the power of obedience to God's commands. Joshua and the Israelites followed God's specific instructions, even though they may have seemed unconventional or illogical. Their obedience resulted in the miraculous downfall of Jericho's walls. It reminds us that obedience to God's commands can lead to victory and breakthrough in our own lives.
Secondly, the story highlights the importance of faith in God's promises. The Israelites had faith that God would deliver Jericho into their hands, even though it seemed impossible. Their faith was rewarded with a miraculous victory. It reminds us that when we trust in God's promises and have faith in His power, He can accomplish great things through us.
Overall, the story of Joshua and the fall of Jericho teaches us about the power of obedience, the importance of faith in God's promises, the significance of unity and teamwork, and the value of worshiping and giving glory to God. It encourages us to trust in God's guidance, follow His commands, and recognize His involvement in our lives.
