Genesis 39:2(NIV)
And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian
On the first Saturday of Advent, we remember Joseph.
The ornament for today should represent Joseph. It could be a colorful coat.
The story of Joseph in Egypt is found in the book of Genesis, specifically in Genesis 37–50. Joseph was the favored son of Jacob, and his coat of many colors became a symbol of his father's love. However, his brothers grew jealous and sold him into slavery.
Joseph was taken to Egypt, where he served in the household of Potiphar, an Egyptian official. Despite facing adversity and false accusations, Joseph remained faithful and found favor with God and with those around him. Eventually, he was falsely imprisoned but continued to trust in God.
While in prison, Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh's cupbearer and baker. Later, when Pharaoh had troubling dreams, the cupbearer remembered Joseph's ability to interpret dreams. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dreams as a warning of a coming famine and advised Pharaoh on how to prepare for it.
Impressed by Joseph's wisdom, Pharaoh appointed him as second-in-command over all of Egypt. During the famine, Joseph's brothers came to Egypt seeking food and eventually discovered Joseph's true identity. Joseph forgave his brothers and reconciled with them, bringing his entire family to Egypt to live.
From this story, we can learn several important lessons. Firstly, it teaches us about the sovereignty of God. Despite the hardships Joseph faced, God was with him and used his circumstances to bring about His purposes. It reminds us that even in difficult times, God is in control and can work all things together for good.
Secondly, the story highlights the importance of integrity and faithfulness. Throughout his journey, Joseph remained faithful to God and maintained his integrity. It serves as an example for us to trust in God's plan, even when we face challenges or injustice.
Overall, the story of Joseph in Egypt teaches us about the sovereignty of God, the importance of integrity and faithfulness, the power of forgiveness and reconciliation, and God's provision in times of scarcity. It encourages us to trust in God's plan, extend forgiveness to others, and rely on His provision in all circumstances.
